Arrangement: Use of this series depends on knowing the roads classification number given to the trunk road about which information is required. This is the original number used to order the plans by the GLC, and has been retained in this catalogue. For example, to find plans relating to approaches to the Hangar Lane Gyratory System, the reader should look under original references 40 and 406 as this is at the junction of the A40 and A406. The exception to this classification scheme is for numbers given as 6-- and 6---, which were collections of plans for large projects that were mostly never attempted.
Appraisal: Plans were assessed for their continuing historical value. Those considered unworthy of permanent retention, for example those relating to temporary road diversions or signing, were destroyed. Most plans, showing work on major trunk roads or intersections, including large scale projects such as the ^<<North Circular Road^>>, were retained. In total, approximately 25% of the series was kept. 01JAN1993 Z
