History Card Registration

London Metropolitan Archives contains over 80 kilometres of archives detailing the history of London and Londoners for the last 1000 years. To use these collections, you will must register for a City of London History Card. The registration process should take little more than five minutes to complete, and a card can be issued to you straight away by one of our staff

Who can register for a History Card?

Anyone over the age of 14 can apply for a History Card.

Why do I need one?

Each individual needs a History Card to gain access to original documents. It also works as your printer credit card should you wish to use the microfilm printers or print anything off from the computer terminals. In the near future a History Card will enable you to carry out your research more effectively by providing access to enhanced features in our electronic catalogues, and ensure you get the most from your visit.

How do I get one?

You can complete the registration form using the computers at London Metropolitan Archives or start your registration up to a month before your visit to London Metropolitan Archives by clicking the button below.

Your details will be held on our system for 30 days before being deleted. During this time you can complete your registration process by bringing proof of identity to the Information Point at London Metropolitan Archives. (See below for details of what proof of identity to bring).

Acceptable Proof of Identity: Full Passport; National Identity card; UK cheque guarantee card, credit or debit card; UK driving licence; UK company photo pass (providing it identifies the company); Student's photo-card or International student photo card (providing it gives the name of the University or College); Armed Forces Identity card; Police Warrant card; Overseas driving licence
